NoRCEL’s BLUE EARTH PROJECT event – BEP2026

Announcing NoRCEL’s next BLUE EARTH PROJECT event – BEP2026

Humanity faces a convergence of crises: climate change, biodiversity loss, water scarcity, shrinking arable land, rising pollution, widening inequality, and rapidly advancing technologies. The need to connect science, ethics, and governance has never been more urgent. At BEP2026, experts explored how breakthroughs in science—especially Ai—must be matched by strong ethical frameworks and responsive policies to safeguard life on Earth. Panellists examined pressing questions of responsibility, equity, and decision-making in an era of accelerating ecological and technological change. Audience discussions focussed on how science can support fair and effective governance, what systems can keep pace with global challenges, and the ethical principles needed to guide responsible planetary stewardship.

Prior to the event, I thought the search for extraterrestrial life is a recent effort. I got to know of its traditional roots. These are the type events that grow students. I am glad to have attended

Multidisciplinary Perspectives: The event successfully bridged the gap between hard science (astrophysics/astrobiology) and the ethical/governance frameworks needed for our future as a multi-planetary species.

This event, as every event of NoRCEL, was interested for everybody no matter your own level of knowledge. My feedback is to get the people who are not part of the panel more involved. There were a lot of discussions in the panel but not that much input from others.
