Announcing NoRCEL’s next BLUE EARTH PROJECT event – BEP2026
How can we align evolving science, ethics,
and governance to ensure planetary survival?
As humanity confronts converging global crises—climate change, biodiversity collapse, freshwater shortages, dwindling arable land, emerging technologies, and resource inequity and increasing pollution of land, air, and seas—the urgency to bridge science, ethics, and governance has never been greater. This forum will explore how rapidly advancing scientific knowledge as exemplified by artificial intelligence, (AI) must be matched with ethical foresight and adaptive policy frameworks to ensure the long-term survival of life on Earth. Bringing together scientists, ethicists, policymakers, and civil society actors, the event will address questions of responsibility, equity, and decision-making in a world of escalating ecological and technological complexity. How can scientific insight inform just and effective governance? What ethical principles should guide planetary stewardship? And what models of governance are fit for the scale and speed of the crises we face? This forum offers an inclusive space to debate, rethink, and re-imagine our collective future.
This hybrid event will take place in Leeds, UK at the St George’s Centre, 60 Great George St, Leeds, LS1 3DL and ONLINE on Saturday the 7th March, 2026 and everyone is welcome to join us, either in person or virtually. We look forward to seeing you on the day…
